2026 UFO Challenge

If you’ve been quilting for any length of time, chances are you have a few unfinished projects tucked away. The 2026 UFO Challenge is your chance to dust them off, make real progress, and have fun doing it. If you have been quilting for any amount of time, you probably have some, just a few LOL, unfinished projects (UFOs). Let’s use 2026 to decide to finish up some of those projects.

Participants will list nine UFO projects they want to complete this year — anything from binding to full quilt tops. You can use the official UFO Challenge Form or simply write your list on paper.

🗓️ Challenge Timeline

The challenge runs from February 2026 through November 2026. Turning in your UFO list at the February meeting earns you one ticket toward the year‑end prize drawing. As the document notes, “The duration of this challenge will be from the February 2026 guild meeting to November 2026.”

Each month at the guild meeting, a number will be randomly selected. That number corresponds to one of your projects. If #4 is drawn, you work on project #4 — or choose another if you’ve already finished it.

📸 How to Participate

For each project:

  • Post starting and finished photos on the Guild Facebook page OR email them to Martee
  • Clearly state your goal (e.g., “I will sew the binding onto this quilt.”)

🎟️ How You Earn Tickets

You earn points — and tickets — throughout the year:

  • 1 point for working on the project during the month
  • 1 point for finishing the project (any time during the year)
  • 2 tickets if you finish the project that matches the month’s selected number
  • 1 ticket if you finish a project that does not match the selected number

More finishes = more tickets = better odds in the December prize drawing.

Optional 10th Challenge

If you want an extra push, you can add a 10th item to your list: a new quilting skill or technique you want to learn this year — such as FPP, EPP, appliqué, or taking a quilt class.

💡 Tips for Tackling Your UFOs

The document includes a fantastic list of motivation tips, such as:

  • Sort UFOs into “keep” and “let go” piles
  • Break large projects into multiple monthly goals
  • Pick your top 12 if you have too many
  • Group small tasks under one number
  • Set aside dedicated UFO time each month
  • Ask for help when needed
  • Swap out projects if you’re not feeling one
  • Avoid starting new projects until you finish the current one

These suggestions help keep the challenge fun, flexible, and achievable.
