Sharon Parkhurst, Auction

Carol Schlabach, Birds of a Feather, Publicity

Barbara Moseley, Block Exchange

I'm from the Seattle area, but married a good Southern boy and have lived in SC for 32 years and Rock Hill for 27.

I've done a lot of different handwork over the years - knitting, crocheting, crewel embroidery, hardanger - but didn't start quilting until 7or 8 years ago, after I was widowed.  I've found quilting has released a creative part of my soul I never knew existed and it has become a passion that satisfies me more than anything else I've done.  I enjoy trying new techniques, creating my own take on someone else's idea or pattern, and I especially like to put blocks (ANY blocks) on point as the center of a larger quilt.

The joy for me is the creating and piecing, making something come alive, and I have projects lined up in my mind, as well as on my sewing table, waiting their turn to become something special.

Barb joined the guild in 2002.

Barb Flood, Librarian

I was born and raised in Michigan and moved to this area 3 yrs ago to be close to kids(two daughters) and grandkids(five grandkids).. I took my first (and only) quilt class about 25 years ago and was immediately hooked. The addiction has continued to grow with the actual quilting the favorite part. After retiring from a career as a Public Health Nurse 5 years ago ,at the age of 55, I have  been able to devote more time to the many ,many quilts I have planned. Other then quilting and traveling with my husband of 41 yrs, my interests are playing with grandchildren, playing the fiddle, gardening and reading.

Barb joined the guild in 2009.

Mona Henderson, Librarian

Jane MacDonald, Membership

Cathy Michael, Newsletter Editor

I am a York County native who learned to sew from my mother and grandmother, both excellent seamstresses.  It wasn’t until 1997 that I visited a quilt shop in Charlotte, NC that I became hooked on quilting fabric.  I say quilting fabric because I have much more of it than finished projects but after joining the York County Quilters Guild in 1999, I realized I was not alone.  The Guild provided inspiration, education and fellowship which it continues to do as the guild has grown.

My husband Bill and I have been married 25 years, have five children, six grandchildren and one on the way.  Living with us is Phoebe the Cat and Lupe the Golden Retriever.  Besides quilting, playing bridge, and gardening, I knit and have discovered that creating a yarn stash is almost as much fun as creating a fabric stash!

Cathy joined the guild in 1999.

Carol Davis, Outreach: Children's Attention Home

Carol is a charter member of the guild.

Gail Moss, Outreach: Little Dresses for Africa

Gail started sewing in eighth and ninth grade home-ec and never stopped: making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She says she discovered her love of quilting in 1999 and never looked back to making clothes again. She bought an HQ-16 mid-arm quilting machine a few years ago and recently organized a machine quilters group that was just named "Armed and Dangerous". She is a member of "The Material Girls" charm group that has 15 members. She loves getting together with her 'quilty' girls and at guild meetings and says if Rock Hill or York had another guild, she would be joining it too, preferably in the mornings.

Her husband Bill of 45 years is getting ready to start divorce proceedings on the grounds of her on-going love affair with her fabric and 6 sewing machines. She and Bill live in Newport (Rock Hill) and have one daughter, two sons, five granddaughters and 2 grandsons. She is retired from the Clover School District as an Educational Interpreter for the Deaf. She continues to interpret for the deaf at First Baptist Church in Rock Hill. Currently she is working with the Outreach: Little Dresses for Africa program. To see more about this visit YCQ: Little Dresses for Africa.

Gail joined the guild in 1999.

Katie Garypie, Telephone/Name Tag

I am a New York native who moved to Rock Hill in 2007 and joined the York County Quilt Guild shortly afterward.  I am primarily a self-taught quilter who has been quilting since 2005.

I work full-time at Winthrop University, and when not working or sewing, I am busy planning my upcoming June 2010 wedding.

Katie joined the guild in 2008.

Vicki joined the guild in 2008.

Lynda Elliott, Ways and Means

Lynda joined the guild in 1998.

Pam Phillips, Website Coordinator

I've been quilting since the mid 1980's. I fell in love with it after working with my grandmother to make baby quilts for my daughter out of left over material from my maternity tops. I enjoy dying and painting fabric as well as the traditional 30's reproductions and the wonderful batiks!

My other love is graphic design. Last summer I found myself unemployed after 31 years and have returned to school to get a degree in Web Development. I plan to use my love for design and computers to gain employment in web design.

Pam joined the guild in 2001.

Martha Mitchell, 2010 Quilt Show

Martha joined the guild in 1999.
